Consumer Price Index (CPI)

Project summary

A user-friendly and accessible platform was created for both Android mobile devices and web browsers to manage processes and calculations related to the Comprehensive Price System and data collection for the Consumer Price Index. Its versatility allows usage across various operating systems. Featuring an intuitive interface, it streamlines processes while ensuring accuracy in calculations and report generation. Additionally, it emphasizes data security to maintain confidentiality and integrity. In summary, the platform optimizes processes linked to the SIP and CPI, supporting informed decision-making in the financial sector.

About the client

National Institute of Statistics (INE) — A decentralized state agency, semi-autonomous, with legal personality, its own assets, and full capacity to acquire rights and assume obligations, whose main purpose is to implement the national statistical policy.

The challenge

The creation and integration of a new system within a critical process in a government entity, considering that it would use both very old and outdated existing data alongside new data. This is because some of the data used in calculations dates back over a decade, and the results must maintain a low error margin compared to the previous system.

Goals

  • Development of an Accessible Platform: Create an easy-to-use and accessible platform, both on mobile devices and web browsers, ensuring a user-friendly experience.
  • Comprehensive Process and Calculation Management: Develop functionalities that enable complete management of processes and calculations related to the Integral Pricing System, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in task execution.
  • Adaptability to Android Devices: Ensure smooth use of the platform from any Android device, prioritizing mobility and accessibility on mobile devices.
  • Platform Launch: Achieve the successful launch of the platform within a defined timeframe, with all necessary functionalities implemented and operational.
  • Usability Levels: Reach a specific level of usability, measured through surveys or user feedback metrics, indicating a high degree of satisfaction and ease of use.
  • Efficiency in Process Management: Improve efficiency in managing processes and calculations, reducing the time spent on these tasks by a set percentage.
  • User Engagement: Increase user participation on the platform, with a specific target for growth in the number of active users within a given period.

Solution

The creation of a system with three independent databases: one for new calculations, another for testing, and an additional one for historical data, with two more databases planned for different calculations.

Development of a highly accessible and user-friendly platform for both mobile and web, enabling the complete management of processes and calculations related to the Integral Pricing System and the data collection for the Consumer Price Index from Android devices (mobile) and any operating system or web browser (web). Despite the use of historical data, a low margin of error was maintained compared to the previous system in terms of calculation results. This successful integration provided a significant improvement in the accuracy of the calculations performed, resulting in increased overall efficiency for the state entity by carrying out its operations faster and more precisely.
